Nature’s Village Resort Joins UN Environment Programme in Efforts to Beat Plastic Pollution

To reduce single-use plastics, Nature’s Village Resort uses stainless steel or paper straws at The Village Restaurant. Brown bags, biodegradable take-out boxes, paper cups and paper straws are also used as packaging for take-out orders. We also use refillable dispensers for our organic conditioning shampoo and biodegradable packaging for our organic bar soaps as part of our room amenities. Glass bottles that can be refilled from water dispensers provided on each floor of the hotel building were supplied for each room.

Nature’s Village Resort also makes ecobricks to line our organic vegetable plots. Ecobricks are recycled plastic bottles that are completely filled with dry plastic wrappers otherwise thrown as garbage that pollutes our rivers and seas. As part of our efforts to motivate staff to practice sustainability, the employees of the resort department who can recycle the most ecobricks are rewarded. Nature’s Village Resort also provides our staff with reusable and washable handwoven masks to help reduce waste and to promote local culture and provide livelihood for regional weavers.

This campaign is initiated by the UN Environment Programme, adapted by the Philippine Center for Environmental Protection and Sustainable Development Inc. (PCEPSDI), under its Transforming Tourism Value Chains project, and the Philippine Department of Tourism (DOT), under its sustainability thrust, Save Our Spots.
